03 · What's included

Every domain comes with these.

Domain registration is a standalone service — you can register here and host anywhere. Here's exactly what you get when you register a domain with us, whether or not you also buy hosting.

The domain itself

We hold the registration with the registry on your behalf. You own it, you control it, you can transfer it out when you choose.

Australian nameservers

Use our nameservers (ns1/ns2.rocoder.com) at no extra cost, or point your domain at any external DNS provider — Cloudflare, AWS Route53, Vercel, anywhere. Your choice.

Auto-renewal (or not)

Turn auto-renew on or off per domain in your client portal. Either way, you'll get reminder emails at 60, 30, 15, and 5 days before expiry — no domain lapses by accident.

Domain locking

Domains are locked by default to prevent unauthorised transfer out. Unlock from your portal when you need to move them. No exit hostility — your domain is your asset.

Free .au transfers in

All .au TLDs transfer in at $0. International TLDs (.com, .net, .org) have the registry's standard transfer cost — no markup from us.

Transfer code on request

Want to move to another registrar later? Request the EPP/transfer code through your client portal — no hoops, no retention scripts. ICANN gives you this right and we honour it without making it hard.

Bundled with hosting

Add a hosting plan and these come too.

A few services that need our mail and DNS infrastructure are bundled with any hosting plan — not sold separately.

  • Full DNS record management

Edit A, AAAA, MX, TXT, CNAME, SRV records directly in the Enhance control panel.

  • Email mailboxes

1 mailbox on Starter, 5 on Standard, unlimited on Business and above. Webmail and IMAP/SMTP included.

  • Email forwarding & catch-all

Forward yourname@yourdomain.com to any inbox you already use. Set up a catch-all for misspellings.

  • Free SSL certificates

Auto-issued and auto-renewing Let's Encrypt SSL on every domain hosted with us.

04 · AU eligibility

.au rules:
who can register what.

auDA — the Australian domain authority — sets eligibility rules for all .au extensions. They're stricter than international TLDs (which is part of why AU domains are more trustworthy).

.com.au & .net.au
Australian businesses

Requires a valid ABN or ACN. The domain name must have a meaningful connection to your registered business name. We verify during registration and let you know before submitting if there's an issue.

.au (direct)
Same eligibility as .com.au

Launched in 2022. Same ABN/ACN requirement. Pro tip: if you own yourbusiness.com.au, you have priority to register yourbusiness.au. We can help you check and grab it if available.

.org.au
Australian non-profits & organisations

For incorporated associations, registered charities, political parties, trade unions. Different eligibility than the business AU TLDs.

.id.au
Individual Australian residents

For personal websites, portfolios, blogs. No ABN required. You need to be an Australian citizen or resident.

.asn.au
Australian associations

For organisations like sports clubs, hobby groups, community associations. Requires association documentation.

05 · Why with us

Domains are commodity.
Service is not.

You can register a domain at a hundred places. Here's what's different about registering it with us.

One company, one bill

If your domain, DNS, and hosting are all with us, you have one place to log in, one bill to pay, and one team to talk to when something needs sorting. The simplification matters more than people think.

Hands-on migrations

When everything's consolidated with us, we can do the entire migration from your previous host end-to-end — site, mailboxes, DNS cutover. When domain/DNS sits elsewhere, we have to bounce tickets between providers.

Australian-owned

ARKNET PTY LTD is an Australian company. Your registrant data stays within Australian jurisdiction. Your support tickets land with Australian sysadmins. No offshore call centres or US privacy-law fishhooks.

No exit hostility

Want to leave? We provide the transfer code via your client portal. No hoops, no retention scripts, no 'are you really sure' guilt screens. Domain registration is portable by ICANN rule — we honour that without making it hard.

06 · FAQ

Questions worth asking.

01 What's the difference between .com.au, .net.au, and .au?
.com.au and .net.au are the original Australian extensions — both require an Australian Business Number (ABN), Australian Company Number (ACN), or other registered business identifier. .au is a newer direct namespace launched in 2022. It has the same eligibility rules but gives you a shorter address (e.g. yourbusiness.au instead of yourbusiness.com.au). Many AU businesses now register both to protect their brand.
02 Who can register .com.au and .net.au?
Australian-registered entities only. You need a valid ABN, ACN, or other recognised business identifier. The auDA rules require the domain name to have a meaningful connection to your business — usually it matches or relates to your registered business name. We verify eligibility during registration; if there's an issue, we'll come back to you before submitting.
03 What's .id.au for?
.id.au is for individual Australian residents — for personal websites, portfolios, or anything not tied to a business. You don't need an ABN. You do need to be ordinarily resident in Australia. Same $21/year price as the business AU extensions.
04 Why is your .com.au transfer free?
auDA-accredited registrars can offer free inbound transfers because the underlying registry cost is paid by your current registrar's renewal. When you transfer to us, you get the remaining time on your existing registration plus a year added at no cost. Other extensions (like .com or .org) charge for transfers because the registry charges a transfer fee.
05 Can I just register a domain here without buying hosting?
Yes — domain registration is a standalone service. You can point the nameservers anywhere you like (your existing host, Cloudflare, AWS Route53, wherever). That said, if you're already hosting with us, keeping the domain with us makes everything simpler: one bill, one support contact, and we can do hands-on migrations if you ever need them.
06 Will my domain price stay the same at renewal?
Registry prices can change — that's set by auDA for .au domains and by ICANN-accredited registries for everything else. We pass those changes through; we don't add a renewal markup. In recent years AU domain renewals have been stable around $21/year. For exotic TLDs, registry prices can shift more — we'll always email you well before renewal with the current rate.
07 How do I transfer my domain to you?
Three steps: unlock your domain at your current registrar, get the transfer/EPP code, then start the transfer from our search box above. The transfer takes 5–7 days for most TLDs (it's not us being slow — that's the registry's mandatory wait). During the transfer your domain keeps working at the old registrar. Once complete, it's in your client portal here.
08 What nameservers should I use?
If you're hosting with us, point your domain to our nameservers — we'll tell you the exact ones in your welcome email (typically ns1.rocoder.com and ns2.rocoder.com). If you're hosting elsewhere, use whatever nameservers that host provides. Either way, you can update nameservers from your client portal at any time.
09 Do you offer WHOIS privacy / ID protection?
For .au domains, public WHOIS is required by auDA — registrant details are publicly visible. There's no privacy option that registrars can legally offer for AU TLDs. For .com, .net, .org and most international TLDs, WHOIS privacy is available either free or for a small fee depending on the registry. We'll show the option at checkout.
10 Can I move my domain to another registrar later?
Yes — domain registration is portable by design. After a 60-day post-registration lockout (an ICANN rule, not ours), you can transfer your domain out to any other registrar. We'll provide the transfer code via your client portal when you ask. No lock-in tricks, no hostage taking.
