About · ARKNET PTY LTD · Australian-owned

A small Australian
hosting company,
deliberately so.

Web Hosting Centre Australia is a trading division of ARKNET PTY LTD. We run our own hosting servers in Sydney and Brisbane, with a small Australian team handling everything from sales to support to sysadmin. We're not a reseller, not part of an acquisition group, and not interested in becoming one.

01 · The company

ARKNET PTY LTD,
trading as Web Hosting Centre.

ARKNET PTY LTD is a privately owned Australian company. Web Hosting Centre Australia is one of our trading divisions — focused specifically on shared, business, and WordPress web hosting for Australian customers.

We have a separate IT remote-support business that's been running since 2013, and we extended into managed hosting a few years later when we realised most of the "Australian hosting" we were recommending to our clients was actually offshore cloud capacity dressed up with an .au domain. We thought we could do better by owning the iron, running it ourselves, and answering tickets directly.

That's the whole story. No mission statement, no founding myth. We're a small team running infrastructure we care about, for customers we generally know by name.

02 · What we stand for

Six operating principles
we actually hold ourselves to.

01

We own the infrastructure

Every server in our hosting platform is owned and operated by us, located in Sydney and Brisbane data centres. Our DNS infrastructure is split across both locations for redundancy. We're not reselling cloud capacity from somewhere larger.

02

Sysadmins answer tickets

When you open a support ticket, the reply comes from the people who run the platform — not a triage layer, not an outsourced helpdesk. The trade-off is we don't do 24/7 phone support, but we do answer tickets quickly and properly.

03

Independently owned

ARKNET PTY LTD is privately Australian-owned. We're not part of an acquisition group, not VC-backed, not under pressure to grow at any cost. That lets us prioritise customers we'd be happy to host for ten years over customers who'll churn after their promo period.

04

We say no to spam senders

Bulk email and marketing-blast servers aren't allowed on our network — full stop. It costs us some signups, but it keeps our outgoing IPs clean, which means our legitimate customers' emails actually land in inboxes.

05

Written record, every time

Every support interaction goes through tickets or live chat. We don't take calls because phone calls vanish — and three months later, when the same issue recurs, neither of us has any record of what we discussed. Written first, every time.

06

Pricing without games

We don't run $3 promos that become $15 at renewal. Prices may adjust modestly over time in line with inflation and cost of operating data centres, but you'll never sign up at a teaser rate and get hit with a 3× multiplier. The price you sign up at is roughly what you'll pay next year.

03 · Where we are

The team is small.
The footprint is real.

Our operations team is split between Melbourne and the Gold Coast, with our hosting infrastructure in Sydney and Brisbane data centres.

Operations & support
Melbourne

Day-to-day customer tickets, billing, account management.

Infrastructure & sysadmin
Gold Coast

Platform engineering, server operations, network management.

Data centres
Sydney + Brisbane

Hosting clusters, DNS infrastructure, redundant connectivity.

04 · Why infrastructure ownership matters

Most "Australian hosting"
is rented cloud capacity.

A lot of providers marketing themselves as "Australian" or "Sydney-based" are running on AWS, Google Cloud, or DigitalOcean — paying per-hour for VMs they don't control. That's fine as a business model, but it means when something goes wrong at the platform level, they're filing tickets with someone else just like you are.

We own the boxes. We know what's running on them. When something needs to be debugged at the kernel, networking, or storage level, we're not waiting on a third party. That's the entire reason we exist.

What ownership means in practice
  • Hardware specs we chose, not what the cloud allocates
  • Predictable performance — no noisy-neighbour cloud surprises
  • Direct access for forensics, debugging, performance tuning
  • No per-API-call billing creep
  • Anti-DDoS and security configured how we want it
  • Capacity planning based on real metrics, not credit-card balance
